I know it's been a year (or some such) since I've posted. Long story short, a lot's happened.

My kid's doing well, I've got 2 jobs at the moment, and I'm still alive. For now.

Anyway, I would appreciate some opinions from my camera savvy friends. I've just recently bought a camcorder. A Canon ZR500 to be exact. It's a low budget one that pretty much does the basics. It was perfect for me because it was in my price range, and it will do what I want it to (record my daughter's basketball games). I have also just recently figured out that trying to hold a camcorder level in one's hands and pan back and forth while only moving one's torso for an hour or so sucks. A lot. So I'm currently in the market for a tripod. Since I'm in a gym (with parents and middle schoolers who don't care that they're in my way), I would like it to be decently tall as well. Other than that, I just need it to hold the camcorder level and be able to pan back and forth. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

So, once again we see the marvelous laziness that is Dave. ^_^

Anyway, events of the past few weeks:

Had company over from Hawaii for two weeks for my cousin's wedding. There were nine people in the house. Made for an interesting but fun time.

Saw "Over the Hedge", "Pirates of the Caribbean", and "A Prarie Home Companion" all within the past week. "Over the Hedge" was hilarious. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. "Pirates" was movie that I thoroughly enjoyed. I'd definitely go see it again with anyone who wanted to go. And I just saw "Prarie Home" this afternoon. It was a pretty good movie with a star studded cast (Kevin Kline, Meryll Streep, and Lily Tomlin just to name a few).

Lastly, and most astoundingly, I got a new job. Completely out of the food service industry. Starting in the very near future, I will be a "Customer Service Associate" for a property management company (in other words I work for a corporation that manages apartments). I was delighted to hear this news as I have been looking for a new job for awhile now that was more of a "normal" person's hours. I'll be working (for the most part) Monday through Friday 9am - 6 pm. That's gonna take getting used to. Anyway, I was just realizing this evening that for the past 10 years or so, I've always pretty much walked into a job knowing exactly how to do my job (serving's pretty much the same wherever you go, it's just learning the "other" details). Now I'm walking into a new industry that I don't know anything about, so I'm going to have to start from square one. Seems kinda eerie.

So, there's the past few weeks in a nutshell. I'll definitely be posting more about the job as things come up.

Wish everyone well!

As mentioned before, Saturday's are usually reserved for going out with a few friends for pool, poker, food and such.

Well, this past Saturday, [info]foogod, [info]ksnarf, [info]zakipu, my daughter Claudia, and I went to Dave and Busters at the Great Mall of Milpitas. We got there at about 6:00 and had dinner, then proceeded to play video games to our hearts' content. My daughter loves to play the ticket games, and made out with a pretty decent stash, including a shot glass for me (I'll have to find a use for that somehow. Any suggestions?). I found a new addiction in a trivia game that gives out tickets. Anyway, I think it was about midnight when I don't know what [info]ksnarf and I were talking about, but somehow the subject of golf came about. I happened to mention that there was a virtual golf simulator and I had never tried it even though I had always wanted to, so we got our names in line and waited for it to be available. We ended up playing that until they closed at 2 in the morning, so I took the boys home and went home for some much needed sleep.

So as if that wasn't enough, yesterday I took Claudia to Q-Zar to play a few games. I hadn't been aware that she had been there before, and I wanted to take her to see if she liked it because I'm planning a surprise birthday party for her. Turns out she does like it, so I made the reservations for that. Now I just have to get invitations out. ^_^ I spent the rest of the day relaxing and feeling sleepy because of the overcastness and other random Hawaii style weather (rain and humidity).

All in all, a pretty good and fun weekend. Hope everyone else's weekend was good.

Man, this journal thing is hard work. I realize that once again, I haven't updated in forever and a day, and for all 2 of you who might give a damn about it, my apologies. In any case, my life has been chock full of social life lately that it's been kind of a whirlwind. In summary:

I have switched my work schedule around to hang with [info]foogod, [info]ksnarf, and [info]zakipu each Monday evening for free pool at Masee's, Wednesday evening for Applebee's, and Saturdays for various nefarious activities.

Every Friday night [info]foogod, my daughter and I go out to Sweet Tomatoes for dinner and generally hang after that.

I go to the gym 4-5 times a week now, so I'm hoping to see some sort of result within a month or two.

I'm looking for a new job (one with medical and dental), so if anyone's got any leads, I'd appreciate it.

All that said, once again, I will attempt to keep this thing up on a more regular basis (hopefully at least once a week).

This morning I woke up at 5:30 to drop my family off at the airport. Claudia and my parents are going to Hawaii to attend my uncle's funeral. Since the girl is on spring break next week, she'll be staying until next Thursday and my parents are going to come back on the 14th so they can spend time with family. Since tickets are uber-expensive right now, I am staying back to hold down the fort. I am, however, taking this weekend off from work to spend some off time by myself.

In other news, I had an interesting occurence at work tonight.

Anyway, I've been up for far too long, so I'm going to bed now. Night all!

Wow... It's been over a week since I updated this thing. I've been meaning to get to it, but things have been pretty busy lately. Okay, let's hit the bullet points.

Recap )

The rest of this week should be good. The plans so far are work tomorrow, drop off family at airport at 5am on Thursday, work Thursday night, not work Friday - Monday (taking a personal weekend), go to Great America on Monday (barring rain of course), go back to work on Tuesday. Anyway, more as events warrant (or probably even if they don't)

So last night, [info]foogod came over to help me install the new cpu and motherboard so I could actually use the Christmas present he got me (a new video card). So we get the whole thing put together, and put the video card in, and the screen is all bleah. We think it may be that I got a wonky video card, so I'm going to take it to Fry's tomorrow and see if they'll check it out for me.

On a bit of a lighter note, Claudia's first softball game was today, and she was pitching today. Now her favorite sport is basketball, but she wanted to try this out, so I let her. Of course, now she's getting into a sport which is very close to my favorite sport and the one I used to play, baseball. Not to mention she's playing the same positions I did. So, from seeing the game today, she's pretty decent and has some good potential. Her team sucks. Now I understand that this is the first game, so I'm willing to give them time. My only problem is that they're coach is the same one they had for basketball, and he didn't teach them a thing in that sport, so I'm not expecting much out of him for this sport either. Anyway, I'm going to work with the girl on her game and see if we can make a decent player out of her. ^_^

Anyway, off to bed because I have a big day of running around doing errands on my day off tomorrow.

P.S. I ordered my media player from Amazon today and it should be here next week. I can't wait for it to get here so I can (hopefully) download stuff to it and take it to the gym, because the gym SUCKS without decent music.

and has been replaced by allergies. So, yeah, a couple of days ago, the sick left. On Friday, however, I was absolutely miserable at work all day because my allergies were killing me. Other than that, though, there really hasn't been anything new going on. I've pretty much been working, eating and sleeping.

Oh, there was a little something the other day. Friday was payday, and my paystub said that I had only worked 5 hours in the past two weeks. Since I knew this to not be true, I went to my manager to see about correcting the error. He told me he would get back to me as soon as possible. So yesterday I go into work and he tells me to not leave without my check and of course as luck would have it it got to the restaurant about 15 minutes after I left on Friday. So after work last night I get the envelope that my check is in, and (take note that usually my checks have tended to be around the $130 mark since I started) it's for $312. Now I'm not complaining, but I'm hoping that this isn't another weird clerical error. My manager asked me this morning if there were any other errors on my check, and when I told him about the large sum he said, "Well, I just want to make sure there isn't an error the other way (meaning my check being too low)." So, until such time as the company says, "Give us money back." it's mine. ^_^

Particularly when you have to work on top of it.

So pretty much nothing's been going on for the past couple of days because I'm sick and feel bleah. Work was more of an annoyance than anything else yesterday, and when I got off, I came home to have the phone ring and the daughter saying she doesn't feel well and wants to come home too. On a good note, last night I went to the gelateria to pick up a cake that a friend had baked for me (she's in a patisserie class at DVC) and the icing was really good. ^_^

Today, I went to work and it ended up being pretty busy. I walked with $97 on a Tuesday. After that I went to the bank, signed up at my dad's gym (for $9 a month with no contract!), and [info]foogod and I went to have dinner at Chili's. I came home and had a piece of the cake and it's very yummy. Now I'm off to bed because I feel bleah.

Hopefully I won't work too late tomorrow and I can come home early and rest all day Thursday (my only day off this week).

So, quick update on things once again.

Thursday: Had a relaxing day off of running a few errands and not much else that I can remember.

Friday: Went down to Pleasanton to talk to the general manager of TGI Friday's. When I told her the story of what happened (If you don't know the story, look back on Wednesday's post), she was very apologetic for what happened and said the situation would be resolved. Her specific words were, "I will break him." ^_^ After that I went to the dwelling of [info]silverkun and [info]ceolyn to hang out and take them out to lunch. After lunch, we went back to their place and [info]silverkun tied me to a chair and showed me Star Wars Battlegrounds 2 and Halo on his XBox. After leaving there, I went and hung out with [info]foogod until about 1 in the morning. ^_^

Saturday: Started feeling the first signs of a cold coming on and had a decent day at work. When I got home, however, I found Claudia watching tv even though she knew she was on restriction, so now the girl is grounded through the month of March. Sucks to be her.

Sunday: The cold is slowly creeping up more and more by the day. Went to work today and had an okay day in which I wanted to throttle the host that sat me 4 tables at once and then before I even got to those 4 sat me 3 more at once. He knows better than that. I even asked him to go easy on me today since I wasn't feeling well. Oh well, I walked with $100, so I can't complain too much. Except that for those of you who know me and know the service I try to give, you also know it's impossible under the circumstances I had today. Anyway, I'm home now and am trying to take it easy and get some rest since I have to be at work at 9:30 tomorrow morning.

Ya know, these updates aren't nearly as short and quick as I always think they're going to be. ^_^

The non-regular update on my life. Since last time:

The weekend was profitable at work, but apparently there wasn't anything terribly memorable. Saturday night, [info]foogod, the weasel and I had dinner at TGI Friday's and had an experience with the worst manager I've ever encountered.

Full story here )

Monday, I started training a new server. Since it was a bank holiday, we ended up being slammed as all hell and completely understaffed.

Yesterday the training continued and it was slow as all hell, so I was able to pass on a lot more information. Went and got a haircut, and came home to a sick girl who wanted to go out for gelato.

Today was the last day I was training the new girl, and she's doing excellently. Despite me only being able to throw bits of info at her at random times, she's retaining a lot and is doing very well. Made pretty good money today, and am soon going to be calling Friday's to see if I can meet with the general manager either tonight, tomorrow, or Friday (since I'm off work the next couple of days). Perhaps this will be the second manager I see out of his position because he decided to treat me like crap.
